Mass spectrometry, also known simply as MS, is an analytical method utilized for the separation of matter according to molecular and atomic mass. Three popular types of MS instruments include MALDI TOF mass spectrometers (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization/time-of-flight), liquid chromatograph mass spectrometers (LC MS instruments) and Gas chromatograph mass spectrometers (GC MS). Mass Spectrometers are most often used in the analysis of organic compounds of molecular mass up to 200,000 Daltons and based on the principal of mass-to-charge ratio of charges partials. These instruments are widely used in forensics, drug testing, environmental monitoring, food safety, etc.
